Arrivals & Immigration
1. Disembark & follow signs to Immigration
English and Vietnamese signage is clear throughout T2. Proceed to passport control. Have your passport (valid for 6+ months), visa or eVisa printout, and entry/exit declaration form ready.
2. Visa check & immigration counter
If you have a pre-approved eVisa, join the main immigration queue. If using Visa on Arrival, stop at the VOA counter first to pay the stamping fee. Average wait time is 15–30 minutes; faster than Hanoi or HCMC immigration.
3. Baggage claim
Carousels are directly after passport control. Flight details are shown on screens. Luggage storage and wrapping services are available near the exit.
4. Customs inspection
Green channel (nothing to declare) or Red channel (goods to declare). Declare high-value electronics on arrival to avoid issues at departure. Familiarise yourself with Vietnam's prohibited goods list before travelling.
5. Arrivals hall & exit
You'll find SIM card kiosks, currency exchange counters, ATMs, tour booking desks, taxi marshals, and private driver pick-up points immediately after customs. Wi-Fi is available here.
⚠️ No ATM is inside the immigration/security area — come prepared with USD or VND for any Visa on Arrival stamping fees before you clear customs.
Visa Guide
eVisa (Electronic Visa): Available to nationals of 80+ countries. Apply at https://evisa.gov.vn at least 3–5 business days before travel. Single or multiple entry. Print your approval letter — phone-only copies may cause delays.
Visa-Free Entry: Citizens of ASEAN nations, Japan, South Korea, Russia, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and several others may enter visa-free for 14–45 days depending on nationality. Check current agreements before travel.
Visa on Arrival (VOA): Requires a pre-approved letter from a Vietnam visa agency before you fly. At Da Nang, stop at the VOA counter before immigration. Bring two passport photos and USD for stamping fees (~$25–$50 depending on visa type).
💡 The eVisa is strongly recommended. It's cheaper, faster at immigration, and avoids carrying extra cash for VOA fees. Apply at least 5 business days before your flight to be safe.
SIM Cards & Wi-Fi
SIM card kiosks are located right in the arrivals hall — staff speak English and can help with setup. Bring your passport for registration. Vietnam uses Nano SIM.
Viettel: Best coverage
- ~100,000–150,000 VND
- 5–10 GB data
- 7–30 days
- Vietnam's largest network. Best rural and highway coverage — ideal if you plan to travel to Hue or Hoi An.
Vietnamobile / Gmobile: Budget pick
- ~50,000–80,000 VND
- 3–5 GB data
- 7 days
- Good for short city stays. Cheaper but lower rural coverage. Sufficient for Da Nang beaches and Hoi An.
Mobifone / Vinaphone: Popular choice
- ~100,000 VND
- 5–8 GB data
- 30 days
- Strong urban coverage and fast 4G. Good option for longer stays across Central Vietnam.
Free Wi-Fi at the Airport
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout T1 and T2 — look for the "@DaNangAirport_FreeWiFi" or "Maltaport Wi-Fi" network. No login required for the first network; open your browser for a quick login prompt on Maltaport. Useful for downloading your Grab app before buying a SIM.
Money & Currency Exchange
Currency exchange counters: VietinBank, BIDV, and ACB counters are located in the arrivals hall after customs. Rates are convenient but slightly less favourable than in-city exchanges. Ideal for small amounts (enough for a taxi and initial meal).
ATMs: BIDV, Agribank, and Vietinbank ATMs are in T2. Techcombank, Vietcombank, Seabank also in T1. Most international cards (Visa/Mastercard) work fine. Typical max withdrawal: 2–5 million VND (~$80–$200) per transaction.
💡 For the best exchange rates, withdraw VND from ATMs in the city rather than exchanging foreign currency at the airport. Keep a small amount of USD as a backup (useful for VOA fees or emergencies).
Getting Around — Transportation
Da Nang Airport is just 3–5 km from the city centre. Journey time to downtown is typically 10–15 minutes. Options below range from budget-friendly to premium.
| Option | Cost (approx.) | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grab (ride-hailing) | ~77,000 VND (4-seat) ~96,000 VND (7-seat) |
10–15 min | Best value. Download the app and connect to airport Wi-Fi. Motorcycle available for 26,000 VND if no luggage. Meet driver at designated Grab pickup zone outside arrivals. |
| Metered taxi | 80,000–120,000 VND to city | 10–15 min | Use Mai Linh (yellow) or Vina Sun (white). Insist the meter is on before moving. Avoid unofficial taxis at exit. Airport toll (~15,000 VND) may be added. |
| Private transfer | $14–$43 USD | 10–45 min | Book in advance through your hotel or a transport agent. Driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign and assists with luggage. Recommended for groups. |
| Public bus | 7,000–8,000 VND | 20–40 min | 8 routes serve the airport area. Walk to Nguyen Huu Tho Street for buses to city centre and Hoi An (Bus No. 01 to Hoi An bus station). Not ideal for heavy luggage. |
| Hoi An Express shuttle | ~120,000–180,000 VND | ~45 min | Hourly shuttles 5am–11pm from Gate A4 in domestic arrivals. Affordable and convenient for Hoi An-bound travellers without heavy luggage. |
| Hotel shuttle | Free–$10 | 10–45 min | Many Da Nang and Hoi An resorts offer airport pickup. Book in advance. Driver will hold a sign at arrivals. |

Shopping & Food
- Duty-free & boutiques (Departure hall (2F)
Duty-free shops for cosmetics, alcohol, and tobacco are in the departure hall after immigration. Boutique shops carry local crafts, Hoi An silk products, and premium Vietnamese coffee brands.
- Souvenir shops (All levels)
Souvenir kiosks are on all floors of T2, including the arrivals hall. Look for Bánh dừa nướng (grilled coconut cookies), ceramic fish sauce dishes, and lantern-motif gifts — classic Central Vietnam keepsakes.
- Restaurants & cafés (Arrivals & departure)
Multiple sit-down and fast-food options in both terminals. Try local Vietnamese staples like Mì Quảng (turmeric noodles, a Da Nang speciality), phở, and bánh mì. Coffee shops serve cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese iced milk coffee).
- Lounges & wellness (Departure lounge)
Green Lounge and CIP Orchid Lounge (3F–4F) offer complimentary food, drinks, Wi-Fi, and showers. A spa and sleeping zone in the departure hall are ideal for long layovers. Access can be purchased separately.
💡 Airport prices are higher than in the city. If you have time in Da Nang before your flight, stock up on coffee, snacks, and souvenirs at local markets like Con Market (Chợ Cồn) for a fraction of the cost.
Departing from Da Nang
1. Arrive early
International flights: arrive at least 3 hours before departure. Domestic flights: 90–120 minutes. During Tet (Lunar New Year) and peak summer months (June–August), add an extra 30–60 minutes for queue congestion.
2. Check-in (2F departure hall)
44 check-in counters on the 2nd floor. Online check-in is available with most airlines and saves significant time. Oversize baggage check-in is also on this level.
3. Security & departure immigration
Standard security screening. Remove laptops and liquids. Vietnamese exit immigration requires your passport and boarding pass. Fast-track services can reduce this to 15–20 minutes even during peak periods.
4. VAT tax refund (if eligible)
International tourists who spent VND 300,000+ at participating stores can claim a VAT refund at the dedicated counter in the departure hall before immigration. Keep your receipts and VAT refund invoices.
5. Gate & departure lounge
Shops, cafés, a spa, and a sleeping zone are available once past security. For comfort, consider purchasing lounge access for longer waits.
⚠️ If you declared electronics or high-value items on arrival, bring those customs declarations to exit immigration. Failure to produce them for declared goods can cause delays at departure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Da Nang Airport open 24 hours?
Yes. Da Nang International Airport operates 24/7. However, most international flights arrive and depart in the evening. Basic seating is available for overnight stays, though a nearby airport hotel is more comfortable for long waits.
Is there free Wi-Fi at the airport?
Yes. Connect to "@DaNangAirport_FreeWiFi" for instant access, or "Maltaport Wi-Fi" with a simple browser login. Coverage extends across both terminals including the arrivals hall — useful for setting up Grab before buying a SIM.
Can I get a Visa on Arrival at Da Nang Airport?
Yes, but you need a pre-approved VOA approval letter arranged before travel. The VOA counter is in the international terminal. Processing takes 15–30 minutes and requires passport photos and USD cash for stamping fees. The eVisa is simpler and recommended instead.
How do I get from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An?
The best options are: a Grab car (~150,000–200,000 VND, ~45 minutes), the Hoi An Express shuttle from Gate A4 (hourly, ~120,000–180,000 VND), a metered taxi (450,000+ VND), or a pre-booked private transfer from your hotel. Bus No. 01 also runs to Hoi An bus station for about 8,000 VND.
Is the airport accessible for travellers with disabilities?
Yes. Both T1 and T2 are fully accessible with ramps, elevators, and designated assistance services. Request wheelchair assistance from your airline when booking to ensure support from gate to ground transport.
Are there luggage storage services?
Yes. Luggage storage is available in the arrivals area outside the terminals. Hourly and daily rates apply. Useful if you have a late flight and want to explore the city on your last day.
Can I use credit cards at the airport?
Major restaurants, duty-free shops, and lounges accept Visa and Mastercard. However, taxis and many street vendors are cash-only. Always carry some VND after clearing customs — ATMs in the arrivals hall are your best option.
What is the airport's IATA and ICAO code?
IATA code: DAD — ICAO code: VVDN. Use these when searching for flights, checking baggage tags, or communicating with airlines about your booking.
